What COVID taught me in the last month

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

I am sure all of us have learned many powerful lessons during the global COVID pandemic. During the last year and a half, I have often repeated these words to myself, “everything that the enemy intends for evil, God turns into something good”. While going through difficult times, it is almost impossible for us to imagine the good outcome that God intends for us to have in the end. Only once we have walked through the difficulty and have overcome, can we look back and see how we have grown in faith, and can we really understand, comprehend, and BELIEVE this truth.

Through COVID many people have learned to appreciate the gift of life, and to appreciate their loved ones, because a tomorrow with them is not guaranteed.

We are currently in the biblical month of Elul. The month of Elul is a time of repentance before the feasts of Yom Teruah and Yom Kippur. During this time, we focus on fixing broken relationships, working on our own hearts, and getting rid of offence!

I was diagnosed with COVID in August, and the LORD started revealing things to me through the symptoms I experienced. I would like to share these revelations with you, in the hope that my journey will bless you and motivate you to continue fighting the good fight!

Revelation 1: The Physical Symptoms I Experienced Was a Physical Manifestation of What Was Happening Spiritually

The battle is real! Regardless of what you or I believe the source or nature of the virus is, I feel that the most important thing to understand is, that there is a very real spiritual element to the virus, and that what the enemy is trying to do in the spirit realm, is manifesting as physical symptoms in the body.

Unless you also fight this virus with prayer, warfare, deliverance, etc. it becomes an overwhelming battle for your body to fight!

The Word of God clearly teaches us this principle of spiritual warfare:

Ephesians 6:12

Complete Jewish Bible

12 For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm.

Revelation 2: The Enemy Wants to Steal the Very Breath Of God

Genesis 2:7

Complete Jewish Bible

7 Then Adonai, God, formed a person [a] from the dust of the ground [b] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, so that he became a living being.

The very air we breathe and the life in us, comes from our Father, and struggling to breathe, to fill your lungs with air and your cells with oxygen, is the enemy suffocating the life force of God out of you. And how many people struggle with a spiritual slumber, struggle to pray, to worship, to read the Word of God, to have a relationship with the LORD?

When I got COVID I found it increasingly more difficult to pray and focus on reading the Word. I realised this is exactly what the enemy wants, and this has been his master plan all along. How “asleep” has the “body of Christ” been in the last few decades?

Revelation 3: Losing Your Discernment

Ephesians 5:6-10

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

Just like you have 5 physical senses, you also have 5 spiritual senses. Your physical sense of smell is symbolic of spiritual discernment. This was probably the symptom that spoke to me the most! It is impossible to explain to someone what it is like to smell nothing, and as I struggled to navigate my daily life without smell, the Holy Spirit started to impress on me how important our gift of discernment really is.

We see in Ephesians 5:6-10 that the enemy comes with deception and empty words, and if we are lacking in discernment we will fall straight into his trap! I pray that the LORD will bless your discernment, and sharpen your spiritual senses, so that you will not be deceived by the lies of the enemy, but that the Light of the Spirit and the Word will illuminate your path.

I was also reminded of the account of the blessing of Jacob instead of Esau in Genesis. It says that Isaac was blind, and because of this blindness he was fooled into thinking that he was blessing Esau, when in fact he was blessing Jacob. If you read Genesis 27:22-28 you will see that Isaac doubted but was not sensitive to the Spirit warning him (obviously God also allowed this, but we should learn from this narrative how important it is to discern when something feels “off”). It says that he touched and smelled Jacob, and that convinced him that he was indeed blessing Esau, although you can see from this account in the Bible that he was doubting, but his senses betrayed him.

It is so important to be sensitive to the fact that the Holy Spirit will always lead you with peace, if you feel uncomfortable or pressed to do something, chances are good that you are deceived and walking in your flesh, and not your spirit.

So, my prayer is for each one of you, is to be led by the Spirit of God, and that He will fill you with His breath of life and open your 5 spiritual senses so that you will not be deceived!

We also would like to thank Jonty and his company Sproutify. They are responsible for the development and hosting of the Quantum Life Application. We have been testing the application for a few weeks now, and the students in the Quantum Academy have enjoyed access to it (T&C’s apply). The feedback from users have been immensely positive, and we want to give the LORD all the honour and the glory, but also thank the developers that put in a lot of hard work and provided us with an application that was really done with a spirit of excellence!
